Appreciation towards Palm design for providing the following description:

总有那么一条河，承载着一座城、一代人的记忆。
River always carries the memories of a city and a generation.

项目所在本是琴江主河道的一部分。上世纪六十年代，由于城市防洪及城市建设的需要，新开挖的直线型河道连接了原河道的拐点，弯道大部分被填埋，形成内河道，保留的一小段宽阔河道被建设为五华县人民公园。因前期建设投入小且疏于管理，公园逐渐被城市居民遗忘。调研阶段，设计师从场地周围明清时期的围龙屋布局中，依稀可辨当年河流蜿蜒、阡陌纵横的田园河溪肌理。

The site is part of the main river channel of Qinjiang River. In the 1960s, owing to the needs of urban flood control and urban construction, the newly excavated linear river channel connected the inflection point of the original river channel, and most of the curved channels were buried and formed into rivers; only a small section of the wide river channel reserved was built as People’s Park of Wuhua County. However, the park was gradually forgotten by local residents because of low investment and neglect of management in preliminary stage. In research stage, the pastoral river texture of meandering and crisscross rivers was faintly recognized from the layout of Hakka walled villages in the Ming and Qing Dynasties around the site.

人民公园位于五华县华兴南路，是五华鲜有的大面积集中的综合性开放绿地，是城市中心的一块绿肺。但受城市不断发展扩张的影响，原有的水源流径正被周围区域过多的生活污水污染，补水量不足，生境退化，生物多样性锐减，需要进行生态保护及恢复，并适当的丰富其生态服务功能。

Located in Huaxing South Road, People’s Park of Wuhua County was a comprehensive open green space with a large area rarely in Wuhua. It was the green lung in the center of the city. However, with the rapid development and expansion of the city, the original flow path was being polluted by excessive sanitary sewage in the surrounding area, the water supply was insufficient, the habitat was degraded and the biodiversity was sharply reduced. Ecology must be protected and restored, while ecosystem service should be enriched appropriately.

项目将滨河景观设计和河道整治结合起来，促进了城市内部景观更新，传承了地域文化，改善了城市生态环境，提升了土地价值，增强了城市土地活力。琴江·老河道湿地公园现状中因为城市不断发展的影响，城市生活污水和雨水集中排入让老河道生态多样性下降，失去以往的净化能力。所以，项目第一步就是重建健康的生态环境系统，包括改善琴江流入的水质和雨水水质，种植乡土水生植物恢复生态栖息地，建造通往河滨的开放性空间，最终促进区域的可持续发展。

The design combined riverside landscape with channel improvement to promote the renewal of interior urban landscape, inherit local culture, improve urban ecological environment, raise land value and enhance land vitality. Due to the rapid development of the city, the centrally eject of sanitary sewage and rainwater into the old river made the ecological diversity reduced and the previous purification capacity lost. Therefore, the first step was to rebuild a healthy ecological environment system, including improving water quality and rainwater quality of the Qinjiang River, planting native aquatic plants to restore ecological habitats, and building an open space leading to the riverside, ultimately promoting sustainable development of the area.

恢复生态栖息地拆除刚硬的混凝土驳岸，采用生态驳岸，为各种挺水、浮水和沉水植物提供生境，提高生物多样性。

The Restoration of Ecological Habitats. Removed rigid concrete revetments and used ecological revetments to provide habitats for a variety of emerging plants, floating plants and submerged plants so as to enhance biodiversity.

把现有水道，直道改弯，通过沉淀、曝气、植物过滤，延长水在净化区域的停留时间，促进水体营养物质被生物所吸收。

Altered the straight part of the exiting river channel into bent, prolonged the dwell time of water in purification area by sedimentation, aeration and plant filtration and helped nutrients of water plants absorbed by organisms.

步道网建造人行道沿着河道铺展，建设长乐桥、亲水栈道平台连接河两岸，在场地内形成系统的步道网络。

The pavement network planned pavements along the river channel. Changle Bridge and a hydrophilic trestle platform were built to connect the two sides of the river to form a systematic pavement network within the site.

结合场地鱼塘肌理，直道改弯，梳理现状、整合，创建一处以生态水处理、湿地游览和科普教育为主的区域，构建生态净化湿地系统，通过沉淀、曝气、植物过滤，调蓄和净化琴江流入的水。

Combined the texture of the fish-pond in the site, altered the straight part of the river channel into bent, analyzed the current situation and integrated, created an area focusing on ecological water treatment, wetland tour and popular science education, and built an ecological purification wetland system through sedimentation, aeration, plant filtration, regulating, storing and purifying water flowing into the Qinjiang River.

为彰显城市重要的石匠文化、民间艺术和客家文化等独特的地域文化，在建设面向城市的公共活动区同时，融入历史文化景观，用文化石柱、地雕、石刻来阐述地域文化和老河道的历史印记。

In order to highlight unique local cultures of the city, such as masonry culture, folk art and Hakka culture, the design integrated historical and cultural landscapes, and used cultural stone pillars, ground carvings and stone carvings to illustrate local cultures and historical marks of old rivers while building a public space of the city.

设计将城市休闲和河道生态环境整治相结合，建立连续的慢行滨河步道空间，改造生态驳岸形式，创造更多的亲水空间。水草繁茂，野花烂漫，漫步其间，人们仿佛又回到了从前阡陌纵横的田园河溪场景。

The design combined urban leisure with ecological environment improvement of rivers, established a continuous slow riverside walkway space, modified forms of ecological revetments, and created more hydrophilic spaces. Lush waters and grass, fascinating wildflowers……people seem as though they have returned to the pastoral riverside scenes while wandering in.

项目将河道生态恢复和城市景观设计结合，创造了天然的散步和聚会场所，使场地成为集城市湿地、文化记忆和城市休闲于一体的生态公园。不仅改善了琴江水域的水质，发挥了调蓄雨水的功能，也吸引了大多数人，成为当地群众喜爱的休闲环境。河滨开放性空间的建造，提升了市民的生活质量，增强了城市活力，最终促进区域经济可持续发展。

The design combined ecological restoration of river channel with urban landscape design to create natural promenade and gathering places, making the site to be an ecological park integrated with urban wetlands, cultural memories and urban leisure. It has not only improved water quality of Qinjiang waters, but also regulated rainwater. It has drawn the most attention and become a favorite leisure place for local residents. The open space on the riverside has been built to improve the quality of life of local residents, enhance the vitality of the city, and ultimately promote the sustainable development of local economy.
