Early on in his career, the architect visited Australia to study the works of Glenn Murcutt. Like this award-winning architect, Montañés is of the view that “you can’t try to make a work of architecture a friend of its environment if you don’t already know, interpret and love it before any architectural action” – and he acts to convey this correlation in his work. He does not believe in sustainability as such, but rather prefers to advocate the humanisation of architecture.
Montañés and his team mainly work around his native island of Menorca, designing works that stand out for their natural lighting, ventilation, and integration into their surrounding environment. From the outset of any project, the studio requests that its clients love and respect Menorca, be open to surprise and actively participate in the thrill that developing a new project entails.
