Based in Hokkaido, Atelier BNK has been actively working in architectural design since Takashi Akiyama, Tatsuya Goto, and Akio Hamada founded the studio in Sapporo in 1970. Initially, the design studio mainly worked on residential houses and interiors, although opportunities to work on public buildings gradually increased from the 1980s until the present day. The works of BNK has been praised from various quarters. Four of its works have received the AIJ Annual Architectural Design Commendation, 23 works have appeared in the Selected Architectural Designs of AIJ, 11 have won the Public Building Award Excellence Prize, and one has won the JIA Sustainable Architecture Award, among other awards.
