Appreciation towards R-land for providing the following description:

文化路环岛呈橄榄形椭圆状，东西长230m，南北宽140m的石头山，最高点距四周道路的高差为13m，并呈较为自然的起伏地形，平面面积为3.26ha。项目要求环岛不允许进入只提供观赏，与常规的设计不同的是免去了利用空间所要求的一切功能，是久违且难得的“纯”设计项目。兴奋过后却又不知从何下手，因为从入校开始就从未做过这种不受任何利用条件限制的设计。首先，主要车流是南北向的文化路，作为文化路的终点，从北侧过往的车辆上看环岛成为最先映入眼帘的主景。为此在环岛的北侧大胆采用炸开山体，形成长近120米，稍向内侧凹陷状的自然石壁，最高点只有4m的石壁却以狭长的横向体感，完成文化路视点焦点空间表现。

▼免去了利用空间所要求的一切功能的“纯”设计项目，only serves for aesthetic purpose

Firstly, the major traffic flow is along the north south axis of Wenhua Road. The view from within the cars coming and going to and from the north is of the roundabout at the end of Wenhua Road and is the first main feature that comes into sight.The large hill to the northern side of the roundabout has been removed and now forms a natural embankment 120 meters in length that slopes slightly inward. With a maximum height of 4 meters, the embankment, being long and narrow, gives rise to a spatial expression with the focus being on the view of Wenhua Road.

其次，利用场地特有的起伏高差，分别沿主要的山脊与山谷设置了两条漂浮蜿蜒的金屋板条带，在寓意博尔塔拉蒙古自治州特有的迎客方式——“哈达”的同时，为无论从环岛的任何一个角度均能感受到一地之主的热情和豪爽。

Secondly, by taking advantage of the characteristic up and down differences in the elevation of the area, two seemingly floating and meandering rows of “golden” houses have been located along the major ridges and valleys respectively implying “Hada” to the guest…welcome to the Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture. Visitors will feel an enthusiasm and a presence of Lord of the Earth from all angles of the roundabout.

最后，在山体的东西两侧与最高峰的半山腰局部炸开山体，更好的挖掘和展现出石山的无限魅力。北侧自然山体石壁间的旱生植被，装饰了稍显单调生硬的石壁，彰显生命力的强胜；点缀在满山的狼尾草、针芧、马兰等旱生地被，追溯了本地区特有的大自然情怀；遍布山体的散置石块，实现了世上一切万物的圆满回归；两条金属带下方向的石墙延承了牧民日常生活画卷；随墙延伸的宽窄不一的外露山体，表达了人类留给赖以生存大地上的足迹；最高点的孤植密叶杨，再现了地区固有的美好景象。我们在创作初期就将此场所确定为：时间与秩序的解读之场，并将空间营造的程度降至最低。唯一的操作——碎石叠墙也是希望更好的突出现状到起伏山体形态。期待这里能成为城市居民的家园之感！设计中避免一切不必要的装饰，追求随时间变化表现出不同的表情，并形成场所特有的一种空间氛围。和常规设计不同之处在于我们在这个场地上没有刻意地去创造和表现设计师自己的意愿，只力求耐心地去培育这个场所。并通过细微的、甚至几乎感觉不到细节的处理，确保空间形体，体量之间的关系不变。也就是说：表情、氛围随时间变化而不断变化，但空间形体，体量关系却始终争取不变或者控制在最小程度的变。太空铝板连接成的“哈达”、石块干垒的“羊围”、星星点点的旱生地被、常见但又不常规的“密叶杨”、自然裸露的山体石壁等无不期待更充分地表达—-场地的“时”与“序”。

Finally, the hillsides to the southern and eastern sides of the mountain and the hillside of the highest peak have been taken away and consequently reveal and demonstrate the infinite charm of this rocky mountain.
