MAD architects, led by Ma Yansong, has revealed “One River North,” the firm’s latest residential project in the United States. As the fourth project MAD will complete in North America, One River North is also MAD’s second residential project in the US.

丹佛位于科罗拉多州东北部，享受着丰富的自然环境红利：科罗拉多州是全美最受欢迎的登山目的地之一；整座城市平均海拔约一英里，有“一英里城市”之称，是典型的的美国高海拔城市；城市西侧是延绵的落基山脉；横跨两大州的南普拉特河贯穿丹佛。

Located in northeastern Colorado, known as one of the nation’s most popular mountain climbing destinations, Denver enjoys rich natural scenery year-round. As a high-altitude city, Denver is nicknamed the “Mile High City” for its average elevation one mile above sea level. The city is flanked by the rolling Rocky Mountains to the west, with the South Platte River, which spans two states, running through.

Adjacent to the city center, One River North is located in Denver’s vibrant River North Art District (RiNo). Peppered with historic warehouses and factories that have been transformed to jazz bars, restaurants, brewpubs, art galleries and working studios, RiNo is among the most artistic and vibrant blocks in the city. One River North is one of the latest residential high-rises under construction in the RiNo neighborhood. With magnificent natural landscapes as its urban backdrop, the building draws inspiration from its mountainous climate, which includes canyons, woods, creeks, and waterfalls that extend into the city to foster a potent connection between urban living and rugged nature.

“垂直峡谷”占地2620平方米，共16层的建筑将提供187户居住单元。朝落基山脉的西北向建筑立面，如同大峡谷般从立面上裂开，横跨10层楼。“裂缝”之处是布满耐旱景观绿植的公共空间和居住单元阳台，为RiNo社区和丹佛市的城市天际线注入了有机自然和活力，也让居民面对原始远山自然的同时也能欣赏城中的人工自然。

Occupying 2,620 square meters, the 16-story building will include 187 for-lease residences. The structure’s most striking feature, a 10-story landscape resembling a slot canyon, defines its northwest facade across from the Rocky Mountains. The rift features vertical public spaces and living unit balconies planted with drought-tolerant landscaping, infusing RiNo and Denver’s skyline with verdant nature while providing its residents with great views of both wild and artificial nature.

从建筑腰部的“峡谷”起始层开始，往上4层的立面处设计了登山径般的步道，居民可以沿其上下通往楼内的公共设施，如健身房、公共会客室、室外花园等。

在城市的人工自然中攀爬，与在原始自然的登山巧妙地遥相呼应。建筑立面的竖向遮光百叶，除遮阳外还可柔化建筑带来的体量视觉。约630平方米的屋顶露台，设有游泳池、水疗中心和户外花园等，接近740平方米的首层将是零售空间。

Starting from the “canyon” floor near the bottom of the building, a trail-like walkway traverses across four floors that leads residents to the building’s many amenities, including gyms, lounges and outdoor gardens.

Climbing in the artificial nature of One River North echoes mountain climbing in the wild nature within viewing distance. The vertical louvers along the façade provide shade while softening the visual effect given of the building’s volume. Additionally, a 630 square meter rooftop features a pool, spa, deck and garden, while the ground-floor level provides 740 square meter of retail space.
