Designing for simplicity is no easy feat, but this family home along the Kona Coast makes it look effortless. The homeowners, who come from a cross-cultural Indian background, believe that minimalism is about possessing only what is truly essential, and thus aimed to under-design their space. Drawing inspiration from Vastu Shastra, a doctrine that emphasizes harmonious living, the family sought to create a retreat that is both functional and beautiful. The home is elegant but spare, exhibiting a spiritual existence that adapts to the environment with ease and comfort.

这些hale（传统夏威夷式居住体量）围绕入口展开布局，入口朝向东方，迎接初升的太阳。由此展开的是一系列不同性质的空间，为家庭成员提供休憩与娱乐的场所。室内空间开放且尺度宽敞，在保持极简与克制感的同时，也带来深层次的宁静与疗愈体验。

The hale are centered around the entry, which faces east toward the rising sun, and what follows is a series of diverse spaces that provide the family with moments for respite or recreation. Rooms are open and large in scale, offering depth of tranquility and renewal while still maintaining a sense of minimalism and restraint.

如同曾经散布于这片土地上的农业建筑一般，每一个体量均采用波纹金属屋顶与天然木质外墙。建筑嵌入场地之中，而其简洁的线条与几何形态，则与起伏的地形以及远处壮丽的海岸线形成鲜明对比。

Much like the agrarian buildings that once dotted the land, each structure is clad with a corrugated metal roof and natural wood siding. Though nestled into the site, the simple lines and geometries create a striking contrast with the undulating landscape and stunning coastline in the distance.

朝东的入口隐藏于道路之外，通过一条蜿蜒步道与水景引导抵达一处带有纱网围合的lanai（夏威夷式开放廊亭）。这座宁静的露天亭廊成为住宅真正的核心，同时也是从外部世界的繁忙过渡至内部安静生活的精神界面。

The east-facing entry, hidden from the road, is accessed by a meandering pathway and water feature that guide you to a screened lanai. This tranquil open-air pavilion serves as the heart of the home and transitions you from the busyness of the outside world to the calm and quiet within.

The architecture, in perfect harmony with the landscape, hovers above a bed of grasses and lava rock. Thanks to the arid climate, the hale remain open to the outdoors almost year-round, with each space featuring large windows or full-height doors that provide breathtaking views. The materials palette used throughout reflects the muted tones found in the natural environment, allowing the structures to recede amongst the grasses and kiawe trees.

曾经粗粝而贫瘠的场地如今被重新激活，通过大量本土与自然化植物的种植而获得新的生机。植被与原有熔岩地貌之间形成了一种微妙平衡，并在kiawe树冠的庇护下自然生长。植物配置被细致地融入场地之中，将建成环境与自然环境重新编织在一起，恢复二者之间原本统一而连续的关系。

The once rugged and barren terrain has been transformed, enriched by an array of native and naturalized plantings. The delicate balance achieved between the vegetation and existing lava flows is gracefully sheltered under the canopy of the kiawe trees. Plantings are thoughtfully integrated into the site, weaving together the built environment and the natural surroundings, and restoring a sense of unity between the two.
