Appreciation towards SIADR for providing the following description:

原海口会展中心是海南省、海口市两级政府投资兴建的大型社会公益设施,由于历史原因，会展中心曾改建为商业综合体，但工程实施尚未完成便已搁置。经历过历史沧桑之后，会展中心现已基本废弃，外立面残破缺失，建筑本身已无法使用。2019年，设计团队开始了会展片区城市更新设计研究工作，追求一种渐进式的，生长式的，混搭式的，修补完善式的改造状态。

The former Haikou Convention/Exhibition Center was a large scale public welfare facility invested and constructed by the Hainan Province and Haikou city. Due to the historical issue, the convention and Exhibition Center was transformed into a commercial complex, however the project implementation wasn’t able to complete. After a long time, the Convention and Exhibition center has been basically abandoned, the façade of the building is devastation, and building is unusable. In 2019, the design team started the research on city renewal design in this exhibition area, In pursuit of a progressive, growing, mixing, and trans-completion form.

海口会展工场的改造作为街区更新的第一步率先启动具体设计与实施工作，老建筑的定位不再是一栋展览建筑，在保留城市肌理基础上，重新植入市民广场和地下停车场。改造后，会展中心将变身为生态高品质的总部办公区。

The reconstruction of Haikou Convention and Exhibition workshop is the first step in the renewal process. It takes the lead in the specific design and implementation. The former building is no longer defined as an exhibition building. On the basis of retaining the urban texture, it re-implanted the citizen square and underground parking into the site. After the reconstruction, the Convention and Exhibition Center will be transformed into an ecological high quality headquarters office area.

在将市中心的历史遗迹进行保留、修复和一定程度的重建，从而将区内的资源整合在一起。建筑师希望能营造一个以人为中心的亲密环境，并提供一份完整且饱含细节的材料语言。以重现海口的深厚历史，并将其延续传承。这里将打造一个集办公、市政广场、城市公园、生态街区，现代与时尚一体的公共服务区。

In order to integrate the resources in the site, the historic sites in the city center should be preserved, restored and reconstructed to a certain content. The architects hope to create a human based intimate environment and provide a complete and detailed material language. In order to reproduce the profound history of Haikou and extend its inheritance. A public service area integrating office, municipal square, urban park, ecological block, modern and fashion will be built here.

建筑处理在保留城市记忆的基础上作适当加法，即保留原会展中心的主体，并对旧结构进行抗老化处理。使由于建筑物残破状态而暴露的混凝土框架实现了可持续性和循环经济的原则。新的外墙缩进框架内，形成与同事邂逅交流的外围阳台流线。拆除年代感与功能不相适宜的构件，增加竖向遮阳百叶，使立面上突出竖向线条，在原有单调的外立面基础上增加一个层次，凸显干净历练的建筑风格。

The construction process is based on keeping the city’s memories. By adding the main body of the former Exhibition Center and anti-aging the old structure, the principle of sustainability and circular economy is realized for the exposed concrete frame due to the dilapidated state of the buildings. The new exterior is retracted into the frame, forming a peripheral balcony streamline for meeting and communicating with colleagues. By removing the components which not suitable for the age and function, and adding vertical sunshade blinds to highlight the vertical lines on the façade. Creating a dimension on the basis of the former monotonous façade to highlight the clean and experienced architectural style.

竖向遮阳百叶环绕会展工场，如同纽带一样将各个总部联系在一起，更加体现办公基地的多元化、生态环保、高品质。百叶的围合，满足海口地区强烈的日照遮挡之外，最大限度地减少了内部的人工照明，夜间亦可形成多姿多彩的灯光效果，给市民及游客带来良好的形象展示。

Vertical sunshade blinds surround the exhibition workshop, connection all headquarters together as a vital link, and further reflecting the diversification, ecological and environmental protection, and high quality of the office base. The enclosed blinds can not only meet the strong sunlight shielding in Haikou area, but also minimize the internal artificial lighting. At night, they also form colorful lighting effects, bring good image display to the public.

室内主要采用黑白灰三色为主基调，简单干练。室内设计删繁就简，回归本真的极简主义，强调工业风、现代感的办公空间。新增加的设计中最引人注目的部分是四个大型公共楼梯，巨大尺度地楼梯设计将其从其余部分的混凝土和玻璃设计中区分开来。

The main tone of the interior is based on black, white, and gray, which is refined. The minimalism interior design emphasizing industrial style and modern office space. The most eyes-catching part of the new design is the four large public staircases, which distinguished from other concrete and glass designs.

楼梯在建筑中雕刻出一条独特路径，从地面通到屋顶，人们可以瞥见办公室内的活动，从而实现了这个办公中心的通透感。在中庭中游走，玻璃，裸漏的结构和充满活力的空间让人联想起丰富的视觉美感。

Stairs carve a unique path from the ground to the roof. People can watch the activates in the office from outside, thus realizing the transparency of the office center. Walking in the atrium, glass, bare structure and dynamic space make people feels the visual beauty.

平面布局上，通过一个横向的建筑核心筒和两个纵向的活力轴，将所有功能连接合并，充分利用原有结构，实现改造效率的最大化。为了更好的服务不同量级的总部办公，原有三组竖向电梯增加至四组，有利实现中部区域的灵活划分。高效的功能分布，简洁明确的交通流线，360°的景观视线，实现了自然采光的最大化。

In the plane layout, all functions are connected and combined through a horizontal core tube and two vertical vitality axes, so as transformation efficiency. In order to serve different levels of headquarters office better, the former three group of vertical elevators are increased to four groups, which is conducive to flexible diversion of the central region. Efficient function distribution, simple and clear traffic flow line, 360-degree landscape line of sight, realize the maximization of natural lighting.
