2024年6月，木白日生艺术设计为设计上海 @新天地设计节创作了以“无边界乐园”为主题的公众艺术装置。对于设计者而言，这不仅是日常工作之外的一次充满自由和趣味实验的机会，设计节更犹如我们的“playground”，使我们的新奇想法得以呈现。同时，我们也希望公众置身其中能够摆脱城市的常规轨迹，尽情享受乌托邦般的游玩空间，感受心灵在这片无边界的乐园中得以释放的愉悦。

In June 2024, MBRS Design and Research Studio created a public art installation themed ” Hybrid playground ” for Design Shanghai @ Xintiandi Design Festival. For the designers, this was not only an opportunity filled with freedom and fun experiments beyond daily routines, but the design festival itself served as our “playground,” allowing us to present our novel ideas. Concurrently, we aspire for the public to immerse themselves in this space, breaking free from the conventional urban paths, indulging in an utopian playground, and experiencing the sheer joy of the soul being liberated within this Hybrid playground.

“飞翔”是我们回应此次活动设计主题的关键词。对于孩子们而言，飞翔可能代表着他们放飞天马行空的梦想；而对于成年人来说，这可能象征着对自由的向往。每个人心中都有想要 “飞去“的远方。装置意在让观众在繁忙的生活之余，放下脚步，参与到装置体验中来，追逐释放自我，像风，像远处飞翔的小鸟，像沉醉的心境。

“Flying in the city” is the keyword that echoes the design theme of this festival. For children, flight might embody their unfettered dreams and wild imaginations; whereas for adults, it could signify the yearning for freedom. In the heart of every individual lies a distant horizon they aspire to “fly” towards. This installation aims to invite spectators, amidst their hectic lives, to slow down and engage in the experience, embracing the release of their true selves – like the wind, like a bird soaring in the distance, or like a state of profound immersion.

追逐
Chasing

回忆年少时光，自行车骑行是很多代人童年的共同愉悦经历。无论是胡同弄堂，山间田野还是都市街道，宽宽窄窄的路亦是我们的舞台，当我们拥有了一辆自己的“座驾“，骄傲快乐地在这形色各异的舞台上驰骋追逐，随着踏板的摇动，我们蹬到哪里就玩到哪里。

Recalling our youth, cycling was a universal joy shared by generations during childhood. Whether it was in the alleyways, the mountainous fields, or the bustling city streets, the roads, no matter broad or narrow, became our stages. Upon acquiring our very own “ride,” we proudly and happily galloped and chased across these diverse stages, with the movement of pedals, pedaling wherever our hearts led us and finding joy wherever we went.

我们尝试以自行车作为我们的空间构造语言，连接人与装置与城市之间的关系，在这里没有边界，只有乐园。此外，我们将可持续发展的理念融入到实际行动中，赋予废弃的自行车（包括淘汰的共享单车）新的生命。可持续发展理念体现在我们对材料的回收再利用上，也代表着对社会和生活的深刻思考。我们坚信，通过将这些废弃的自行车转化为新的实验空间，可以唤起人们对可持续生活方式的关注，引发其对社会和环境的深刻思考，同时为大家提供一个创新、有意义的交流平台。

We endeavor to utilize bicycles as our spatial construction language, bridging the connections between people, installations, and the city. Furthermore, we have incorporated the concept of sustainability into our actions by breathing new life into discarded bicycles, (including obsolete shared bikes). This commitment to sustainability is embodied in our recycling and reuse of materials, signifying a profound reflection on society and life. We firmly believe that by transforming these abandoned bicycles into novel experimental spaces, we can awaken people’s attention to sustainable lifestyles, stimulate deep thoughts about society and the environment, and simultaneously provide an innovative and meaningful platform for exchange.

在装置主体的体验互动区，我们通过对报废自行车的重新组合拼装，创造出两组能够互动的机械装置。这种创新性的做法旨在挖掘废弃资源的潜力，并将其转化为具有实用性和观赏性的艺术装置。重新组装的自行车部件不仅仅是废旧物品的简单堆砌，更是一种对于可持续发展理念的实践。

In the experience area of the installation, we will reassemble the scrapped bicycles into two sets of art devices through recombination. This innovative approach aims to tap into the potential of discarded resources and transform them into practical and aesthetically pleasing art installations. The reassembled bicycle parts are not merely a simplistic accumulation of waste materials; rather, they represent a tangible manifestation of sustainable development principles in action.

翱翔
Flying and soaring

在装置顶端部分的互动结构主要采用可回收的废旧自行车零件作为材料。这些零件经过加工、组合和排列，形成了类似“翅膀”的形状。对于游客而言，这些机械结构不仅仅是静态的装置，更是可以被激活和互动的。通过触发主装置区的设定，游客可以亲身感受到这些废旧零件被赋予的新的生命，体验到随着机械结构运动所带来的动感和变化。

The main material for the interactive structure at the top of the installation continues to be recyclable discarded bicycle parts. These components are processed, combined, and arranged to form a “wing” shape. For visitors, these mechanical structures are not merely static installations but can be activated and interacted with. By triggering the settings in the main installation area, visitors can personally feel the new life breathed into these discarded parts and experience the dynamism and changes brought about by the movement of the mechanical structures.

装置激活
Device activation

装置提供了多处可以与之互动的区域，不论是单人模式还是多人合作，都可以触发装置的启动和飞翔。在游客参与装置活动的过程中，不仅体验到了操控机器的乐趣，还融入到整个表演中。这不仅仅是一次简单的游乐体验，更是一次心灵与外界相融合的探索之旅。

The art installation provides multiple interactive areas that can be activated and flown, whether in single-player mode or through multi-person cooperation. During the process of participating in the installation activities, visitors not only experience the joy of controlling the machine, but also integrate into the entire performance. This is not just a simple amusement experience, but also an exploratory journey that blends the mind with the outside world.

“飞翔” 装置将互动行为，游戏体验，机械环保等问题通过各角度的思考结合起来，与此同时也潜移默化地连接了人内心与自然，城市，社会之间的关系。参与者不分年龄，性别，职业，在这里没有边界，只有乐园，追逐飞翔着抵达每个人心中想要“飞去”的地方。

The “Flying in the city” installation combines interactive behaviors, gaming experiences, environmental protection in machinery, and other issues through multi-faceted considerations. At the same time, it subtly connects people’s inner selves with nature, cities, and society. Participants are not limited by age, gender, or occupation. Here, there are no boundaries, only a playground where everyone can chase and fly to the place in their hearts they aspire to “fly” to.
